A cinematic universe is a collection of interconnected creative objects (films, television series, games, comics etc) all sharing several common elements such as dramatic framework, basic storylines, narrative foundations, but especially characters who appear simultaneously in each object or otherwise interact with each other even if in different objext so as to behave as components of the same creative franchise. Examples of cinematic universes are Marvel’s, with superhero films produced by Marvel Studios such as “Iron Man” and “The Avengers”, and the DC Universe with Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and several other characters.
A cinematic universe that instead of being controlled and managed by a movie studio or other similar global financial IP owner, it’s controlled by a DAO or analogous decentralized organization qualifies as a decentralized cinematic universe.
A DAO is a management structure that leverages blockchain technologies to distribute management and ownership, including entity ownership, across a system governed by smart contracts and where all members participate in the decision making without responding or reporting to a central authority.
2137AD is a decentralized cinematic universe owned and governed by an ad-hoc DAO whose members decide on how the universe is run and whose votes and decisions are recorded on the blockchain and executed automatically through “smart contracts”. 2137AD is a platform where, through a number of different means and technologies - including social network Discord and crypto marketplaces - members of the DAO’s community participate to the development and expansion of the universe by, for example, staking native tokens to support existing projects, by creating new characters, stories and environments and by using all other means allowed by the platform, earning ownership and financial rewards for such participation.
2137AD was created with the purpose of liberating creators, empowering them with the tools to contribute creatively to the expansion of a cinematic universe without the centralized control of a traditional “production” authority such as a movie studio, while acknowledging an IP ownership that reflects their contribution to the creative process. Decentralization is viewed as a means to un-intermediate the relationship between creators and their fans, allowing creators to rely on the community to support and push their ideas forward instead of depending on the often inaccessible financial echelons of the entertainment industry. Access to the platform and related creative objects occurs via 2137AD’s Discord Server and through any of the other means authorized by the platform. Registration is free. The platform’s website contains all information respecting the community participation and reward system in the DAO as well as of which creative objects are already active. Participation is subject to acceptance and continuing respect of the DAO’s rules of conduct.
The actual purpose of the platform is to enable its members to creatively participate to the expansion of the 2137AD universe and to be rewarded proportionately to their contribution. The platform is a work in progress where several different but interacting objects are gradually being deployed. Once you have become a member of the platform, you will notice that said objects (books, graphic novels, film, television, gaming etc) will gradually become active environments where developments reflecting the 2137AD universe can flourish. For example, when a “book” will have opened, you will be able to participate in the applicable Creative Room voting to the Master Storyteller Proposals. 2137AD rewards contributors with a specific token reward system based on each individual contribution together with co-ownership of the relevant IP. 2137AD is based on the premise of a world almost annihilated by climate disruption where society’s reconstruction would not be possible without such environmental awareness as necessary to prevent another catastrophe. The platform encourages any projects, characters or storylines that pursue the goal of rebuilding a sustainable, safe society, of which the colonies are the civilized expression, and the DAO will reward this attention to the environment with dedicated airdrops.
2137AD uses the Polygon blockchain as its infrastructure and will take advantage of all existing and future technologies to support its own expansion.
